FAQs

I am new to therapy; what should I expect?

First of all, congratulations on taking the first step to take better care of yourself. You can reach out to schedule a free, 20 minute consultation during which we will decide together if we might be a good fit to work together. Some people already know that and want to jump into making an appointment, which you can do here. Your first few sessions will involve information gathering and getting to know you and what is bringing you to therapy at this point in your life. It can feel tiring and emotional but many people will say that just the act of saying out loud what is going on life is enormously helpful.

May I see you in person or virtually?

My practice is in Corte Madera ( located minutes off of Hwy 101 with ample parking) where I offer live sessions. I also offer phone sessions and virtual sessions through Doxy.met, a platform that is designed specifically for mental health providers and is HIPPA compliant. It is very easy to use, doesn’t require any special app, and is just the click on a link that I will provide you.  Just make sure have a quiet and private place with good internet connection.

Who do you work with in your practice?

I work with individuals 15 years old or older, couples and families.

How long is each session?

A typical session is 50 minutes. For couples or families, I will often recommend 90 minutes, but this is will be discussed when we meet initially.

How often should I expect to meet?

You should plan to attend weekly for therapy to be most beneficial, especially in the early stages.  Building a solid working relationship is difficult to do if we meet less frequently. Under certain circumstances where it is assessed to be a crisis or acute situation, I may recommend meeting more frequently until the crisis subsides.

Are you an in-network provider with any insurance providers?

Therapy is a commitment of your time, energy and money. I recognize that therapy costs can be expensive for many. I do not accept insurance and am considered an “Out of Network” provider for PPO plans.   At your request, I can offer you a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company in order to obtain reimbursement . Please contact your insurance provider to find out what they may cover for out of network providers.

How long should I expect to be in therapy ?

The time you spend in therapy will depend on your goals. Goals can be varied and changeable and therefore the length of treatment is something we will discuss together. At the onset of our work together, you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate (GFE), a document that provides an estimate of expected costs for your mental health services based on anticipated therapeutic needs.

May I get a free consultation?

I offer a free, 20 minute, phone consultation if you are considering beginning therapy with me, which you may schedule here (Link) or by contacting me (here…email/phone). This is an opportunity to tell me a bit about what is bringing you to therapy at this point, as well as a chance to ask me any questions you may have.

What about medication?

I am not licensed to prescribe medication. Some of my clients come to me already on medication, while others may consider medication during the course of our work together if psychotherapy alone is proving insufficient. Most people have positive results in therapy without medication, but it can be one tool rather than the tool. Ultimately the decision is yours. If this becomes a consideration, I am happy to provide you with psychiatric referrals.

How soon until I can start?

Consultations can usually be scheduled within a few days and, depending on our respective schedules, a first session could be scheduled within a week.
